Fourth & Fifth Grade

The Intermediate Years

Building Skills for What Comes Next

Fourth and Fifth Grade are important years of growth at Brandon Academy. Students strengthen core academic skills while becoming more organized, independent, and confident in how they approach their work.

As they prepare for the next stage of school, students learn to manage responsibilities, communicate their ideas clearly, work collaboratively, and take greater ownership of their learning.

Learning Through Purposeful Experiences

Hands-On Science

Science gives students opportunities to investigate questions, conduct experiments, observe results, and connect classroom concepts with the world around them.

Literature Circles

Literature circles encourage students to discuss novels and stories, consider different perspectives, and support their ideas through thoughtful conversation.

Group Projects

Collaborative projects help students organize ideas, divide responsibilities and work with others toward a shared goal.

Research and Writing

Research and writing projects teach students to ask useful questions, find reliable information, organize their thinking, and communicate what they have learned.

Read. Discuss. Write.

Language Arts With Depth

Fourth and Fifth Grade students read engaging novels and stories that introduce new ideas, perspectives, and increasingly complex themes.

Through reading, discussion, and writing, students strengthen comprehension, support their thinking with evidence, and become more confident expressing ideas of their own.

Writing experiences include narrative, descriptive, persuasive, and expository work.

A Strong Core Curriculum

Mathematics

Students deepen mathematical understanding through instruction, discussion, practice, problem solving, and increasingly independent work.

Science

Hands-on investigations help students explore scientific ideas, ask questions, analyze results, and build understanding through discovery.

Language Arts

Reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and discussion help students become stronger communicators and more thoughtful readers.

Social Studies

Students explore history, geography, communities, and culture while developing a broader understanding of people, places, and ideas.
Preparing for Greater Responsibility

Independent Habits, Collaborative Learning

Students develop the habits that support success in school and beyond. They learn to manage their time, stay organized, complete responsibilities, and approach assignments with greater independence.

At the same time, group activities encourage students to listen carefully, contribute ideas, solve problems together, and take responsibility for their role in the team.

Creative Learning Every Week

Weekly special classes give students additional opportunities to create, move, communicate, develop new skills, and explore interests beyond the core classroom.

Art

Students explore visual expression, creative techniques, and opportunities to communicate ideas through art.

Music

Students build musical understanding, creativity, and confidence through performance, rhythm, movement, and exploration.

P.E.

Physical education develops movement skills, teamwork, coordination, confidence, and healthy habits.

Spanish

Students continue developing Spanish communication skills while expanding vocabulary and cultural understanding.
