Middle School

Grades 6–8

Growing Toward High School With Confidence

Middle School at Brandon Academy is a time of growing independence. Across Grades 6–8, students strengthen their academic foundations, take greater responsibility for their work, and build the confidence to handle new challenges.

Our teachers provide the structure and support students need while encouraging them to think independently, manage responsibilities, and prepare for the expectations of High School.

A Three-Year Journey

Grade 6: A Supported Beginning

Grade 6 introduces students to the expectations of Middle School within a supportive environment. Students adjust to new routines, explore new opportunities, and begin taking greater responsibility for their learning.

Grade 7: Practicing Independence

In Grade 7, students build on the foundations developed during their first Middle School year. They take greater ownership of assignments, organization, time management, and the choices they make as learners.

Grade 8: Preparing for the Next Step

Grade 8 prepares students for the next step. Students strengthen the academic habits, independence, communication skills, and personal responsibility they will need as they transition into High School.

A Strong Core Curriculum

Students strengthen reading, writing, communication, and critical-thinking skills while learning to analyze ideas, support their thinking, and express themselves clearly.

Mathematics

Students deepen their understanding of key mathematical concepts while strengthening problem-solving, analytical thinking, and the ability to explain their reasoning.

Science

Students investigate questions, explore scientific concepts, analyze evidence, and connect classroom learning with the world around them.

Social Studies

Students examine people, places, events, cultures, and ideas while developing a broader understanding of history, communities, and the wider world.

Spanish

Students continue developing Spanish vocabulary, communication skills, and cultural understanding through increasingly meaningful language experiences.

The Right Level of Challenge

Support, Placement and Opportunity

Brandon Academy works to meet individual student needs through thoughtful placement in core academic courses.

Students who are ready for additional academic challenge may have opportunities for accelerated coursework. Our goal is to provide the right level of challenge while helping each student continue building confidence, independence, and strong academic habits.

Electives

Learning Beyond Core Classes

Electives give Middle School students opportunities to explore interests, develop new skills, and experience learning beyond their core academic subjects.

Offerings may include robotics, visual arts, drama, music, and other enrichment opportunities.

Confidence, Independence and Responsibility

Self-Confidence

Students are encouraged to participate, try new things, express their ideas, and build confidence in their abilities and decisions.

Independence

Students practice managing their time, completing responsibilities, staying organized, and taking greater ownership of their learning.

Responsibility

Students learn that their choices matter. We encourage them to contribute positively to the school community and take responsibility for their actions.
Learning Beyond Campus

Experiences Beyond Campus

Learning does not stop at the classroom door. Middle School students have opportunities to connect what they study with experiences beyond campus.

Field trips and other off-campus experiences give students new perspectives, strengthen relationships, and create memorable opportunities to learn together.
