Special Areas

Beyond the Core Classroom

More Ways to Create, Move and Connect

Special Areas give Lower School students more ways to create, move, communicate, and discover new interests beyond the core classroom.

From Pre-K3 through Grade 5, students participate in art, music, physical education, and Spanish. These experiences support creativity, confidence, communication, coordination, and cultural awareness.

Four Experiences. Countless Ways to Grow.

Art

Students explore creativity through color, line, shape, texture, and a variety of artistic materials while learning about artists and styles from around the world.

Music

Students sing, move, perform, play instruments, and build musical understanding while developing confidence and creativity.

Physical Education

Students build movement skills, coordination, teamwork, confidence, and healthy habits through age-appropriate games and activities.

Spanish

Students build age-appropriate Spanish vocabulary and communication skills while developing an understanding of other cultures and communities.

Art

Discovering the Artist Within

Art gives Lower School students opportunities to explore visual ideas, experiment with materials, and express themselves in their own ways.

Students work with concepts such as color, line, shape, and texture while creating both two- and three-dimensional pieces. Along the way, they are introduced to artists, techniques, and styles from different parts of the world.

Music

Making Music Come to Life

Music gives students opportunities to sing, move, perform, play instruments, and use their imagination.

Throughout the year, students build musical understanding while learning to participate, listen, collaborate, and express themselves with growing confidence.

Physical Education

Move, Grow and Work Together

Physical education helps students stay active while developing coordination, movement skills, teamwork, confidence, and healthy habits.

Activities may include jumping, throwing, skipping, hopping, catching, kicking, games, dance, gymnastics, and other age-appropriate movement experiences.

Students also learn the importance of effort, sportsmanship, cooperation, and taking care of their bodies.

Spanish

Language for Real Connections

Spanish gives Lower School students opportunities to build vocabulary, practice communication, and become more comfortable hearing and using another language.

Lessons also introduce students to cultures and traditions connected with Spanish-speaking communities, helping them understand that learning another language is also a way to connect with people and perspectives beyond their own.
